SUPPORTER SPOTLIGHT

Dr. Jack Romence has held many babies. A retired OB-GYN, he was part of countless deliveries over the course of his career, welcoming all the tiny new lives.

But there were two babies that held him – held his heart, and brought him to DABSJ: Kristi and Karl, the children he and his wife Lija adopted.

“Adopting our two children through D.A. Blodgett, that’s what got us involved with this wonderful charity,” he said. “Now, later in life, we’ve been able to give back financially to help other families.”

With that personal connection, Jack and Lija gave throughout the years with dedication and heart.

“So many of the kids have been through so much,” he said. “Anything you can do to make their life better, to help in bad situations, it’s important. You might prevent a life of sorrow. You might save a life.”

The Romences were frequent attendees at DABSJ’s annual Guild Ball. When Lija passed in 2024, Jack remained steadfast in his support, attending the event with his daughter, Kristi. “(DABSJ) was very much important to Lija. It was a passion of ours for many years, and it’s played a big role in our lives,” he said. “We are very impressed by all the help provided to children who have very special needs.”

Even in retirement, Dr. Romence still cares for children – this time through generosity. His support and yours help build bright futures where they are needed most.

DABSJ is inclusive and welcoming – from our team members, to the children we serve, to the families we license as foster parents. You could play a part in providing homes and hope for children who need a place to be themselves.
