Black History Month Book Drive

Celebrate Black History Month with Our Book Drive! 📚

Join DABSJ in honoring and celebrating Black history throughout the month of February! We’re excited to announce our Black History Month Book Drive, and we invite you to contribute to this meaningful initiative.

🌟 Our Goal: We are looking to collect a diverse selection of books that not only celebrate the rich tapestry of Black history but also provide representative literature. Books can play a crucial role in promoting cultural awareness and understanding.

What We're Collecting:

We’re seeking donations of children’s and young adult books that highlight the achievements, struggles, and contributions of Black individuals throughout history, or provide representation for Black children and families. From inspiring biographies to captivating fiction, each book will contribute to creating a more inclusive literary landscape.

You can buy or bring books from anywhere you like! New or gently used books are welcome.

Looking for ideas? Visit our wishlist on that supports local Black-owned bookstore We Are LIT! and ships directly to DABSJ.

🏡 Where Your Books Will Make a Difference:

The collected books will be used to stock various spaces on our campus where children and families spend time. This includes family visit rooms for foster care and our residential treatment and independent living houses. Your generosity will help create enriching environments that foster family connection, learning, and belonging.

🌍 Community Impact:

In addition to enhancing our on-campus resources, a portion of the donated books will be distributed throughout the community. We’ll be stocking the GR Black Book Exchange boxes, contributing to a city-wide effort to make diverse literature more accessible to all.

When is the Book Drive?

The Black History Month Book Drive will run throughout February. We encourage you to contribute early and often to make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

Let’s come together to build a collection of books that reflects the beauty and diversity of Black history, as well as the importance of representation. Your support will leave a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of children and families in our community. Thank you for helping us make a difference this Black History Month!

DABSJ is inclusive and welcoming – from our team members, to the children we serve, to the families we license as foster parents. You could play a part in providing homes and hope for children who need a place to be themselves.
