Coping with Loss, Grief, and Ambivalence
The purpose of the presentation is to:
• normalize and identify the multiple sources of loss and ambivalence in the kinship experience
• provide strategies and approaches for coping with and managing these feelings so that they do not result in family disruptions and caregiver burnout
• explain how loss and ambivalence are different for kinship caregivers compared to non-kin foster/adoptive parents and the implications for preparing and supporting caregivers. Presented by Dr. Joseph Crumbley, Expert Trainer, Consultant & Therapist

1. Where There is Anger, There is Pain
Caring for children who have been separated from their parents comes with its own unique consideration and challenges. In this workshop we will explore what may be hidden behind their anger or other challenging behaviors. The better we understand the better we can respond. 2. Helping Kids Manage Stress
Children and youth are experiencing stress, and as caregivers we have an opportunity to support them. This workshop will cover common causes, signs, and symptoms of stress, as well as discuss strategies for supporting children, youth, and caregivers experiencing stress. Objectives include: • Identify common causes of stress in children and youth today • Identify common symptoms or signs of stress in children and youth • Discuss strategies to support children and youth in stress • Discuss strategies to support families and caregivers in stress Presented by Courtney Aldrich Program Instructor, Child and Family Development Michigan State University Extension

Brief Practices in Mindfulness and Joy
Establishes a practical understanding of mindfulness. Participants will experience several mindfulness practices and develop a plan for personal mindfulness practice. Presented by Nicole Wethington, ERYT Health Educator Michigan State University Extension Health & Nutrition Institute
About the Keynote Speaker
Dr. Joseph Crumbley received his masters and doctorate in social work from the University of Pennsylvania. For 38 years he was in private practice as a family therapist, trainer and consultant. His clinical experience includes all areas of child/family well-being specializing in kinship care. Dr. Crumbley is a world recognized educator and advocate for kinship caregivers. He has retired from his clinical practice and is currently providing keynotes and speaking engagements around the globe.
