Laura Mammen of D.A. Blodgett - St. John’s appointed to Michigan Board of Counseling by Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Grand Rapids-based D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s (DABSJ) is pleased to share Laura Mammen, M.A., LPC, LMFT, NCC, ACS, has been appointed to the Michigan Board of Counseling by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Mammen is the Clinical Program Manager for DABSJ family preservation services.
Mammen has worked on the DABSJ team for 16 years and brings extensive expertise in child and family services to the group.
“Laura provides invaluable support to the children and families in our community through her work here at DABSJ,” said Mary Muliett, DABSJ President and CEO. “We are thrilled she now gets the opportunity to bring that to the state level as she helps ensure exceptional levels of clinical care from Michigan’s counselors.”
Added Mammen: “It’s my privilege to join the Michigan Board of Counseling and share what I have learned throughout my education and career so that people in Michigan who seek help from a counselor get the clinical care they need.”
Mammen began at DABSJ as the Multisystemic Therapy Supervisor. Today she is the program manager for DABSJ’s Young Delinquent Intervention Services, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Services, Kent School Services Network, Behavioral Health Services, Enhanced Foster Care Services, Early Childhood Attachment Services, Multisystemic Therapy, and Community Living Supports. Additionally, she previously served on the Board for Marriage and Family Therapy for Michigan from 2012-2021.
Mammen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Counseling Education from Western Michigan University. She is also a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, National Certified Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor.
According to the Governor’s office, the Michigan Board of Counseling was enacted as part of the Public Health Code to license counselors who render to individuals, groups, families, organizations, or the general public a service involving the application of clinical counseling principles, methods, or procedures in an educational, business, health, private practice, or human services setting. The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board including promoting and protecting the public’s health, safety, and welfare.
Mammen is appointed to represent statutorily regulated health professionals for a term that commenced October 18, 2022 and expires June 30, 2026. The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate.
