Post Adoption Support

A Village for You

Adoptive Family Support Network provides adoptive and foster parents with community, education, and support

Adoption is a unique way to form a family, and sometimes families need a unique kind of support to make it work. With the Adoptive Family Support Network, we give adoptive and foster parents access to a community of people who can provide answers and share experiences. AFSN supports all kinds of families and all types of adoptions throughout Michigan.

AFSN Support Groups

There’s something about talking to another parent who “gets it.” Our support groups are set up to meet that need for adoptive families. Groups are facilitated by an Adoptive Parent Consultant and are parent led. They also use the North American Council on Adoptable Children’s guide for nurturing adoptive parent groups and the Circle of Parents® model for groups.

We also provide help finding additional adoptive parent support groups in the state. Use the map to find a comprehensive county-by-county listing of foster, adoptive, and kinship support groups across Michigan.

Parent to Parent Support

AFSN’s Parent to Parent support provides a listening ear, knowledgeable guidance, and community connections for adoptive families.

We connect your family to an Adoptive Parent Consultant with experience relevant to your situation, provide personal contact and support in whatever way you’d like (phone, email, in person), and connect your family to other adoptive families so you can support each other as you grow together.

We help connect you with support for questions like:

Adoptive Parent Consultants have training and a variety of experience with things like foster-to-adopt, domestic adoption, transracial adoption, kinship adoption, children with special needs, and much more.

Get Parent to Parent support any time by calling us at 855-MICH-P2P or send us an email at afsn@dabsj.org. Our services are free of charge to any adoptive, kinship, and guardianship families living in Michigan.

DABSJ is inclusive and welcoming – from our team members, to the children we serve, to the families we license as foster parents. You could play a part in providing homes and hope for children who need a place to be themselves.
